Biology: Year 10 term 4 test Flashcards
Air transmission
the spread of an infectious agent caused by the dissemination of droplet
Communicable disease
A disease that can be transferred from one organism to another
Non-communicable disease
A disease that cannot be transferred from one organism to another
Pathogen
A microorganism that causes disease
types of pathogen
Virus, Fungi, Protist, Bacteria
Examples of communicable diseases
Aids, Malaria, Athletes foot, salmonella
Examples of non-communicable disease
Diabetes, Cancer, Heart disease, Lung cancer
How many chromosomes do humans have?
23 pairs or 46
Where does photosynthesis occur
chloroplast
Stage 1 of Mitosis
Cell growth: New parts of the cell are made e.g. mitochondria, ribosomes. DNA Is replicated
Stage 2 of Mitosis
One set of chromosomes move to either end of the cell, and nucleus divides
Stage 3 of Mitosis
Cytokinesis: Cytoplasm and cell membrane divide to form genetically identical cells
If a cell has 30 chromosomes, how many chromosomes are in the daughter cells?
At the end of Mitosis, the cell would have half the original number of chromosomes, that is, 15 chromosomes.
Benign Tumour
Growths of abnormal cells, Contained in one area (usually within a membrane) therefore do not spread around the body.
