Biology test 26.5.22 Flashcards
Photosynthesis
Carbon Dioxide is converted to glucose during photosynthesis. Glucose contains carbon
Respiration
CO2 is released from organic matter
Combustion
fossil fuels are burned and release CO2 into the atmosphere
Fossilisation
Living things don’t fully decay when they die and they fossilised. Over time they turn into fossil fuels
Feeding and Assimilation
Carbon is passed from one stage of a food chain to another.
Photosynthesis equation
Water + Carbon Dioxide —– Glucose + oxygen
Aerobic respiration equation
Oxygen + glucose —– Water + carbon Dioxide
Anaerobic respiration equation (in animals)
Glucose —– lactic acid + (some energy)
Anaerobic respiration equation (in plants and yeast)
Glucose —– ethanol + carbon dioxide + water
Combustion equation
Fuel + oxygen —- Carbon Dioxide + water
How can the population of animals or plants be estimated?
The size of a population of animals or plants in a habitat can be estimated by taking samples of the organism from the habitat
Quantitative sampling
Taking several readings and then finding the number of organisms per metres squared
Range
The range of the data between the minimum and maximum values
Mean
Add all the readings together and divide by 10
Median
The middle values when the numbers are put in order
