AIC MOCK EXAM REVISION Y10 Flashcards
“I had some affection for her and made her happy for a time”
The inspector wasn’t as hard on Gerlad as he was on Mr.B and Mrs.B. Maybe due to the fact the Gerlad is taking her pain into consideration, he’s beginning to understand
We can keep it from him
Gerald thinks he can keep the truth from the inspector. But what he doesn’t know, is that the inspector already knows
I’m rather more - upset - by this business than I probably appear to be
Audience thinks Gerald has started to change, but he is the one that discovers that the inspector is fake, and so celebrates with Mr and Mrs Birling like nothing ever happened.
I don’t give a damn now whether I say here or not
Not bothered by father’s threat to kick him out. He has now become stronger, not afraid to contradict his powerful and controlling father
These girls aren’t cheap labour, they’re people
Metaphor. Reminding Mr.B that his workers should still be treated like human beings
You’re daughter isn’t on the moon Mr Birling. She’s here in Brumley too
Powerful Rhetoric
Advice to Sheila. To take her own control back
There are millions of eva smiths and John smiths still left with us… we don’t live alone. We are members of one body, we are responsible for eachother
Rule of 3, Inclusive pronouns - reminding the family of the need for unity within the public, no matter their social hierarchy or gender
Eva Smith- represents eve from Bible story
John Smith- very popular name from 1912
After all its better to ask for the earth than to take it.
Metaphor
Warning Mr Birling about his selfish attitude. Not afraid to contact him.
The time will soon come when if men not learn that lesson, they will be taught it in fire and anguish
Religious metaphor linking to hell. Hell as a punishment for those who do not care for their fellow man.
I insisted on giving her money to keep her going
Eric gave Eva money to help her, due to the fact that she us pregnant
Was he finally being responsible?
I wasn’t In love with her or anything - but I liked her - She was pretty and a good sport
Eric’s lack of responsibility and passion for a woman carrying his child. Lack of real care and affection for daisy. Dispassionate, disinterested
I know we’d have done the same thing
Here Gerald is seeking approval, validation from Mr Birling, whom he is trying to impress with his ‘business-man’ nature by supporting his decision
You’re beginning to pretend how that nothing really happened at all. I can’t see it like that. The girl’s still dead isn’t she?
Like Sheila, Eric has learnt his lesson. He has now take responsibility for his actions and is passionate about Eva’s death. But his parents still haven’t learned.
[We hear the sharp ring of the front doorbell]
Inspector’s arrival turns heads. Doing so he cuts off Mr Birling speech, where he is talking about his capitalist ideology. ‘Sharp’, unpleasant
The point is, you don’t seem to have learnt anything… it’s you two who are being childish - trying not to face the facts.
Accusing parents of not learning a thing
No longer afraid to contradict them
