− Placentome or placenta
− Spleen = bvd pcr
− Liver = IBR + bacteriology
− Stomach contents = bacti e.g. Salm; campy
− Kidney = lepto
− Brain = Neospora
− Left ventricle
− Thyroid
− Eyelid = ureaplasma; fungal hyphae in hair follicles
− Paired dam serology

Q
What does a large thyroid indicate?
A
- Goitre = iodine deficiency = causing abortion
3
Q
What test can be done for BVD?
A
- Detect PI in blood from one month of age
- Ear notch tissue test when tagged
- Check test (5 per group)
- Bulk tank PCR
4
Q

- Preputial washing of bulls
- phosphate buffered saline warmed
- Prevent faecal contamination
- Discard urine contaminated samples
- Delivery to laboratory within 4-6 hours of collection

5
Q
How can you test for IBR?
A
- Serology - ELISA
- Swabs - immunofluorescence
6
Q
How can you diagnose neospora?
A
- MAternal serology
- test calf at birth - indicates dam infected if calf is +ve
7
Q
How can you test for lepto?
A
- Serology
- Identification of leptospires from abored tissue, blood or urine by immunofluorescence or PCR
