bone structures Flashcards
what type of tissue is bone, what does it do
connective tissue, supports organs/muscels + maintaining form
what are the two types of material bone is made from
organic inorganic
discribe organic bone material
makes up 33% of the extracelluar matrix. made from collogen and proteoglycan
discribe inorganic bone material
makes up 66% of the ECM. made from hydroxyapitite and other Ca minerals
what are the 4 celluar comonents of bone and function
makes up 2% weight
osteoblast (make bone)
osteoclast (destroys bone)
osteocyte (recycle mineral + proteins)
osteogenic (stem cells make osteoblast)
what is cancellouse bone structuer
trambecular
discribe trambecular structure
made from multi directional struts of lamellae. with marrow between the gaps, lacunae on the surface between lamellae.
what is campact bone structure
osteon structure
discribe an osteon
made from concentric rings of lamellae around the central chanel which has nerves and veins. within the lamellae are lacunae and canaliculai
how does canaliculai relate to lacunae
lacunae store osteocytes which use canaliculai to travel through the ECM
how does bone respond to trauma
it heals, it also changes with how u use your body
how does bone remodel/grow
appositional growth, osteoblast adds lamellae of bone to the surface, osteoclast removes bone in the medullary cavity
when does osteoporosis/osteopenia occour.
organic reason
when OC>OB, more is removed than made.
what is the effect of osteopenia on trambicular and osteon structure
bones become thinner and weaker, trambicular structure becomes spongy.
lose your cornical(compact bone) and vertibra fractures ocour
who is at risk of osteopenia
people with bad nutrition / excercise
people with low bone mass in 20s
woman after menopasue less estrogen
