blood vessels of the GI Flashcards
where are the foregut, mid gut and hind gut spanning to and from
foregut; oesophagus to the duodenum
mid gut: major duodenal papilla to the last third of the transverse colon
hindgut: the rest of the transverse colon to the rectum
what are the branches off of the abdominal aorta and their spinal levels of their divisions
celiac trunk: T12
superior mesenteric artery: L1
renal and gonadal arteries L2
inferior mesenteric artery: L3
the bifurcation of the aorta to the common iliac arteries: L4
what major branch of the aorta supply the foregut, midgut and hindgut
foregut is the celiac trunk\
midgut is the superior mesenteric artery
hindgut is the inferior mesenteric artery
what are the three major divisions of the celiac trunk
left gastric artery
common hepatic artery
splenic artery
where does the left gastric artery supply
the lesser curvature of the stomach
what blood vessels supply the pancreas
the splenic artery is most of it plus the spleen
the gastroduodenal artery is there as well
what are the branches off of the splenic artery and where do they supply
pancreatic branches
short gastric artery goes to the fundus of the stomach
left gastroepiploic artery is to the greater curvature of the stomach
what does the left gastric artery stem from and whats it supply
comes off of the coeliac trunk and supplies the lesser curvature of the stomach
what does the left gastroepiploic artery stem from and what does it supply
comes off of the splenic artery and supplies the greater curvature of the stomach
what does the short gastric artery come off of and what does it supply
comes off of the splenic artery and supplies the fundus of the stomach
what are the branches of the common hepatic artery and what do they supply
right gastric artery goes to the lesser curvature of the stomach
proper hepatic artery - off of this are the left and right hepatic arteries to the liver, and the cystic artery to the gall bladder
gastroduodenal artery which gives off the right gastroepiploic which supplies the greater curvature of the stomach
where does the right gastroepeploic artery come from and what does it supply
it comes from the gastroduodenal artery which comes from the celiac trunk. and it supplies the greater curvature of the stomach
where do the cystic artery and the left and right hepatic arteries come from and what do they supply
they all come off of the proper hepatic artery which is from the common hepatic artery.
L&R supply the liver
cystic artery supplies the gall bladder
where does the right gastric artery come from and what does it supply
comes off of the common hepatic artery from the celiac trunk. it supplies the lesser curvature of the stomach
what are the branches of the superior mesenteric arteries and what do they supply
jejunal arteries - jejunum
ileal arteries - ileum
ileocolic arteries - terminal ileum, cecum and vermiform appendix
right colic artery - ascending colon
middle colic artery - transverse colon (first 2/3)
what are the vasa recta
these are small arterial branches off od the intestinal arteries
how do the vasa recta differ between the jejunum and the ileum
in the jejunum they are longer whereas the ileum they are shorter
where do the jejunal and the ileal arteries stem from and what do they supply
jejunal - jejunum
ileal - ileum
both come from the superior mesenteric artery
where does the ileocolic artery come from and whats its supply
supplies the terminal ileum, the cecum and the vermiform appendix. it comes from the superior mesenteric artery
where do the right colic artery and the middle colic artery come from and what do they supply
right colic supplies the ascending colon
the middle colic supplies the transverse colon
both come from the superior mesenteric artery
what vessels are between the superior mesenteric artery and the inferior mesenteric arteries
the renal arteries and the gonadal arteries
what does the inferior mesenteric artery supply
the hind gut. the end of the transverse colon, the left splenic flexure and the rest of the colon to the rectum
what are the branches from the inferior mesenteric artery and what do they supply
left colic artery - divides to the ascending branch for the rest of the transverse colon, and the descending branch for the descending colon
the sigmoid artery for the sigmoid colon
superior rectal artery for the rectum.
where does the superior rectal artery come from and what does it supply
comes from the inferior mesenteric artery and supplies the rectum
