Q

what structures can be found along the functional line os symmetry

A

the IVC and the gall bladder. these separate the liver into functional units

Q

what are some of the areas we can find on the liver surface and what are they a result of

A

colic, renal and gastric - these are caused by indentations of the organs on the liver surface.
there’s the bare area - this is where the liver has absent peritoneum

Q

whats the path of the peritoneum around the bare area of the liver

A

the anterior coronary ligament, to the right triangular ligament to the posterior coronary ligament, going around the IVC and porta heptis (portal triad), then to the left trianglular ligament then it moves anteriorly to the falciform ligament.

Q

what are the two recesses we see about the liver and what’s their significance

A

Suhbprenic recess - between liver and diaphragm. Hepatorenal recess is between the kidney and the liver.
these recesses are where fluid can gather, or even infection can cause abscess in these spaces

Q

describe the pathways to make the hepatic portal vein

A

Drains blood from the superior rectal vein, colic veins. These two join to make the inferior mesenteric vein.
Then theres also the splenic vein joins the inferior mesenteric vein at the superior mesenteric vein which then all become the portal vein.

Q

what are the boundaries of calots triangle

A

Boundaries of Calot’s Triangle:
Medial: Common hepatic duct.
Inferior: Cystic duct.

Q

describe the pathway of the extrahepatic biliary circulation

A

the bile canaliculi drain to the left and right hepatic ducts which then themselves merge to create the common hepatic duct, the common hepatic duct combines with the cystic duct to make the common bile duct. the cystic duct comes from the gall bladder.

Q

what do we have at the hepatic ampulla to control secretions

Q

whats the blood supply to the pancreas

A

Splenic artery and gastroduodenal are the arteries we actually need to know.
Splenic artery supplies most pancreas and also the spleen.
Pancreatoduodenal arteries do the head
