- use premade response cards or desk cards to silence
- use nonverbal signals
- catch them being good and reward that behaviour
- have a safe, low stimulation area that can help them calm
What are some good Classroom Management strategies to use for a student with ADHD?
- behavioural contracts & self-monitoring
- remove distractions & do not use timers (increase the pressure & distractions)
- teach listening skills
- use eye contact & use various voice tones
What are some Corrective Consequences you could use for a student with ADHD?
- encourage positive practice & allow re-do’s
- keep delay of consequences brief
- use “time owed” strategy
- parental contract
What are some good Creative, Engaging and Interactive Classroom Strategies for managing someone with ADHD?
- get attention prior to instruction/directions
- short & clear directions & have students repeat
- provide clarity & structure
- increase praise, encouragement, and reward increments of improvement and interaction
What are some things you can do with yourself to help a student with ADHD?
- change what you can control and that’s yourself attitude, body language, voice strategies,
and expectations - be fair, firm, and consistent
- be trauma informed
- remain calm
