Q

describe complex 1

  • name
  • stucture
  • mechanism
A
nadh dehydrogenase
flavoprotein
largest transmembrane protein
L shaped
steam egninge like movement pumps 2e- from nadh through fmn fe4s4 to uq-> ugh2
4H+ pumped into ims

Q

describe complex 2
name
mechanism

A

succinate dehydrogenase
delta g is too small for h+ pumping
2e- from fadh goes through fe2s4 cyt b and uq -> ugh2

Q

describe complex 3

A

cytochrome oxireducatase - cyt b/c complex
runs q cycle
3 subunits - cyt c iron sulfer proteins and cytob
cytochrome c is a mobile protein that attatches to complex 3 on ims
oxides uqh2-> uq
pass 2e- to cytochrome c
pumps 4+ into ims

7
Q

describe the q cycle

A

UGH2 in membrane is oxised to ugh. and electron is carried by cyt c(can only carry one at a time)
second uqh2 is then oxidised and 1 e- goes to cyt c and the other regenerates uqh2 from the free radical

Q

describe complex 4

A

cytochrome c oxidase
cyt c gives 2e- to complex 4
reduce 1/2 O2 to h2o
2H+ is pumped across

11
Q

why is an extra proton required for translocation?

A

movement of atp->ims or adp-> matrix or pi-> matrix or OH->ims changes the ph gradient equivalent to extra proton

glutathione peroxide

17
Q

describe cytochrome c

A

peripheral membrane of heamoprotein

contains covalently bonded haem c prosthetic group fe3+

18
Q

how many atp do fermentation and aerobic respiration both yield?

A

fermentation = 2

aerobic respiration = 30
