- extends vertebral column

bilateral action: extends vertebral column

- linea alba by a broad aponeurosis

lumbar fascia, inguinal ligament, and iliac crest
Where is the insertion of the internal oblique?
linea alba, pubic crest, inferior rib surfaces (last 4 ribs); costal cartilages of ribs 8-10

unilateral action: lateral flexion of vertebral column
bilateral action: flexes vertebral column, compresses abdominal wall, used in forced exhalation
