Outline the contents of the AW169 loading SOP
Process for safe loading and unloading of the aircraft with the TPLS

Outline the steps to cabin preparation for patient loading
- Needs to be done prior to moving the patient to the aircraft, ask pilots to assist if possible
- Move any kit you don’t need to the boot
- What if checks
- Primary bags outside the aircraft
- Unlock and rotate TPLS to full extended position
- Blizzard on the stretcher - more to keep the aircraft clean
- Prepare and check oxygen, can connect to spare cylinder if supply system fails
Outline the steps to patient preparation for loading
- On a scoop
- Spider straps
- Check for snags
- Hearing protection
Describe the aspects of patient loading, contained in the Patient Carry Team section
- Bring the patient to the aircraft, ideally on a trolley
- Minimum 4, ideally 6 to carry the scoop
- Approach with permission from captain
- Scoop aligned with TPLS, loading feet first
- Once scoop wholly on stretcher, secure with seat belts
- TPLS back to flight position
- Secure monitor and ventilator
- Secure equipment
Describe the aspects of loading under APU mode
May need to keep engine 1 running but with blades stationary - usually if on beach below tide line/rapid turnaround
One crew member goes into rotor disc to get ear plugs for other responders
Once all wearing helmets and ear protection, can enter rotor disc
One crew member to go on comms to provide commentary to pilots and maintain SA
Escort carry team away from disc
Describe the aspects of patient unloading
Bear in mind staff at HLS may be unfamiliar with 169
May need to open doors to monitor rear of aircraft
Once cleared out - move the TPLS and prepare for offloading
Crew member should escort DCA crew/porter to aircraft, don’t have the trolley to close
4 ideally 6 people to offload
Clean interior, reconfigure and restock. Depressurise O2 system.
