Autonomic nervous system (dave's notes) Flashcards
What innervates skeletal muscle?
The motor part of the somatic system
What innervates cardiac, smooth muscle and glands?
The motor part of the ANS
Where are the cell bodies of the motor part of the somatic system?
In the motor nuclei of cranial nerves or the anterior horn cells of the spinal cord. These nerves run uninterrupted to muscles
Where are the cell bodies of the motor part of the autonomic nervous system?
These nerves are interrupted by synapses in a ganglion, hence there are two sets of neurons which are preganglionic and postganglionic
Where are the cell bodies of the motor part of the sympathetic nervous system?
The LHC?? of thoracic and upper lumbar spinal cord
Where are the cell bodies of the motor part of the parasympathetic nervous system?
in the cranial nerve nuclei and the LHS?? of sacral segments of the spinal cord
