ACT and BCT within normal limits and do not differ more than 10dB= normal
ACT and BCT within normal limits but DIFFER more than 10dB= conductive dysfunction
ACT outside normal limits, BCT within normal limits and DIFFER more than 10dB= conductive
ACT and BCT outside normal limits but do not differ more than 10dB= sensorineural
ACT and BCT outside normal limits but DIFFER more than 10dB= mixed
ranges of hearing loss
0-20Hz: normal 20-40Hz: mild 40-60Hz: moderate 60-80Hz: severe 80+Hz: profound
what is affected in conductive hearing loss?
outer or middle ear
what is affected in sensorineural hearing loss?
inner ear or 8th cranial nerve
what 2 things can cause conductive hearing loss?
otosclerosis; otitis media
what 3 things can cause sensorineural hearing loss?
meneir’s disease; presbycusis; noise induced (JOVANY)
referral for conductive? referral for sensorineural?
physician!
what hearing loss can be fixed with hearing aids? why not the other?
conductive because it’s outer/middle ear. cannot fix inner because damage to cochlea or nerve
when does it matter what sounds a patient is hearing or not hearing?
when it affects their speech output!!
untreated hearing loss is directly related to what 2 diseases?
Alzheimer’s or dementia
