Atoms Flashcards
What is the level of organization of matter?
Atom –> Subatomic Particles –> Molecules –> Macromolecules –> Organelles.
What is an atom?
The basic unit of chemistry.
What is a subatomic particle?
Basic part of matter and chemistry.
What are molecules?
2 or more atoms combined.
What are macromolecules?
Dozens to thousands of molecules.
What are organelles?
Many macromolecules.
What are electrons?
Negative particles attached around the nucleus.
What are protons?
Positive particles in the nucleus.
What are neutrons?
Neutral particles in the nucleus.
What are the 4 fundamental forces?
- Strong nuclear force
- Weak nuclear force
- Gravity
- Electromagnetism
What is the strong nuclear force?
The force that permits elements to form.
What is the weak nuclear force?
The force that permits radioactive decay and breakdown.
What is gravity?
Force that attracts with more mass.
What is magnetism?
The force that permits the movement of energy.
What are orbital shells?
How electrons move about the nucleus.
