Define compatibility group B
Articles containing primary explosive and not containing two or more effective protective features.
Define compatibility group C
Propellant explosive substance or other deflagrating substance or article that contains such an explosive substance.
Define compatibility group D
Secondary explosive detonating substance or black powder or article containing secondary detonating explosive substance, in each case without a means of initiation and without a propelling charge, or an article containing a primary explosive substance and contains 2 or more effective protective features.
Define compatibility group E
Article containing a secondary detonating explosive substance, without it’s own means of initiation, with a propelling charge (other than a flammable liquid or gel or hypergolic liquids)
Define compatibility group F
Article containing a secondary detonating substance with it’s own means of initiation, with a propelling charge (other than a flammable liquid or gel or hypergolic liquid) or without a propelling charge.
Define compatibility group H
Article containing both an explosive substance and WP
Define compatibility group S
Substance or article so packed or designated that any hazardous effects arriving from accidental functioning are confined within the package unless that package has been degraded by fire.
What is a hazard division?
Indicates the hazard that can be expected in the event of a fire, explosion or related event
Define Hazard Division 1.1 and what could occur in an incident?
Substances and articles which have a mass explosion hazard.
Severe structural damage to structures in the immediate neighbourhood. Blast, heavy and high velocity fragments are the major hazards.
Define hazard division 1.2 and what could occur in an incident?
1.2 Substances and articles which have a projection hazard but not a mass explosion hazard.
Items burning and exploding a few at a time. Fragments, firebrands and unexploded items may be projected in considerable numbers and may explode on impact propagating the fire/explosion
Define 1.2.1 and 1.2.2 (They are not UN recognised codes)
1.2.1 munitions that contain a high explosive charge and may also contain a propelling or pyrotechnic charge with an individual NEQ >0.73kg
1.2.2 munitions that contain a high explosive charge and may also contain a propelling or pyrotechnic charge with an individual NEQ =<0.73kg
Define hazard division 1.3 and what could occur in an incident?
Substances or articles which have a fire hazard and either a minor explosion hazard or minor projection hazard but not a mass explosion hazard.
Some items will burn with great violence, intense heat as a mass fire hazard and others sporadically. Large burning clumps, firebrands and burning packaging may be projected from an explosion but not usually dangerous kinetic fragments.
Define 1.3.3 and 1.3.4 (They are not UN recognised codes)
1.3.3 producing a mass fire effect. Items such as bulk propellant producing fireballs with projected burning fragments and intense heat which can be channelled by structures.
1.3.4 not producing a mass fire effect. Items may produce similar but more moderate effects compared to 1.3.3.
