Assessment - Step 1 - Welcome & Tour Flashcards
How long should the welcome and tour take?
3 minutes +/- 30 seconds
How should the triallist be greeted?
With a handshake and by name
What should you tell all training staff before you start your assessments?
The name of your assessments so they can also greet them by name without being prompted
What is the first paragraph you say to the triallist as you meet them?
Hi INSERT NAME,
extend hand and shake firmly while looking them in the eye, my names Mark.
How do you do?
Did you find us ok? Where abouts have you come from?
What is the second paragraph you say after asking where abouts they have come from?
What we are going to do today is, I shall show you around and then we will go into the office and go through a health questionnaire.
We will then do a little exercise but its called a Functional Movement Screen so it won’t be too strenuous.
Is that ok?
After the introduction and you have said what the triallist will be doing, what do you say?
Ok, if you follow me please:
START WALKING WITH CLIENT (with client by your side) INTO TRAINING AREA.
So how did you find out about the DVCC?
ASK FURTHER QUESTIONS AS NECESSARY
ASK MORE QUESTIONS TO BUILD RAPPORT
What do you point out to the triallist first? Use the script
This is the reception, where you can relax and have a chat with everyone…We have a lovely community here….
Over there are the toilets, if you need to nip out at any time, even during a session please feel free. We have changing rooms so you can always get changed here before your session if you want.
We are a personal training gym, which means people never come and do there own thing.
You are only every here for a training session and are always under the care of one of us. Its not like a normal big box gym where you just go in and out without anyone noticing.
Are you currently exercising?
Have you trained before?
What is this first section of the assessment for?
Building rapport with the triallist and making them feel comfortable
After asking the triallist if they have trained before….And asked any other relevant question about themselves.
What do you say next?
We do 3 different types of training. 1:1, semi private, which is a maximum of 4 clients in a session, and then team training which works best with between 8-15 clients.
You will probably recognize things like dumbbells etc but you may not recognize the prowler or sled. We specialize in fat loss and toning and we have had these pieces of equipment custom made for us.
A lot of them are unique to the DVCC.
As you can see we are very different from a “normal gym”. So no mirrors or lycra clad 20 year olds! :) And actually the only way we use the word gym is because we have sessions running from 6am in the morning to 9pm at night.
This is our main training area, follow me through to the office…..
What do you do when you show the triallist into the office?
Pull the chair out for them.
