Formation of Executive Council (Interim Govt.)
A
- August 1945, British asked Nehru to form Executive Council to act as interim Govt.
- Jinnah refused to nominate members, until congress accepted that it had no right to nominate Muslims
- 2nd September 1945, Council was sworn in with only Congress members

Jinnah’s Realization and Masterstroke
A
- He realized the importance of having league members in council
- Nominated 5; including Liaqat Ali Khan
- In political masterstroke he also nominated 1 Hindu
- As he knew many would live in Pakistan, and wanted to show he was not Anti-Hindu

Elections For Constituent Assembly
A
- Elections For Constituent Assembly were held b/w June and December 1946
- However, when they first met, league refused to attend
- In retaliation congress demanded resignation of league members from Executive Council, as they had rejected Cabinet Mission Plan
- If they did not resign, Congress would withdraw its own
- British PM, decided it was time for decisive action
