Arrhythmia's and Pacemakers Flashcards
Shockable rhythms
Ventricular tachycardia
Ventricular fibrillation
Non-shockable rhythms
PEA - incl sinus rhythm wo pulse
asystole
Heart block - first degree
delayed conduction through AV node
every atrial impulse > ventricular contraction
every p wave > QRS complex
PR > 0.2 seconds = 5 small or 1 big
What is second degree heart block?
two types
Mobitz type 1 - Wenckebach phenomenon
Mobitz type 2
Mobitz type 1 (Wenckebach phenomenon)
conduction goes through AV node progressively longer until it finally fails
after which it resets
Mobitz type 2
intermittent failure of conduction through atrioventricular node with an absence of QRS complexes
following p waves
PR remains normal
what is transvenous pacing?
using a catheter, fed through venous system to stimulate the heart directly
indications for pacemakers?
symptomatic bradycardias
mobitz type 2 heart block
third degree heart block
AV node ablation / atrial fibrillation
severe heart failure
