What is depersonalisation?
Feeling like you’re not real
What is derealisation?
Feeling like the things around you aren’t real
What are some chest and abdomen symptoms of anxiety?
-Shortness of breath
-Choking
-Chest pain
-Nausea
-Stomach churning
What are some autonomic symptoms of anxiety?
-Palpitations
-Sweats
-Shakes
-Dry mouth
What are some general symptoms of anxiety?
-Chills/flushing
-Numbness
-Tingling
-Pins and needles
What are some organic causes of anxiety?
-Pheochromocytoma
-Hyperthyroidism
-Hypoparathyroidism
-Caffeine
-Substance use (acute intoxication or withdrawal)
-Medications (asthma drugs and steroids)
What is generalised anxiety disorder (GAD)?
Generalised and persistent anxiety not associated with a particular circumstance
-Most days for at least several weeks
What is a panic disorder?
Recurrent unpredictable severe panic attacks that lasts minutes
Can be mistaken for an MI or asthma attack
What is a specific phobia?
Excessive anxiety that occurs on exposure or anticipation of exposure to something
What is a social phobia?
It’s the fear of scrutiny and criticism by others
Symptoms: blushing/sweating/ tremor/ stutter
What is Agoraphobia?
Fear of situations where escape might be difficult or help might not be available
What is an obsession?
An unwanted and unpleasant thought, image, or urge that repeatedly enters your mind causing feelings of anxiety, disgust, or unease
What is a compulsion?
A repetitive behaviour or mental act that you feel you need to do to temporarily do to relieve the unpleasant feelings brought on by the obsessive though
What is a body dysmorphic disorder?
Persistent preoccupation with one or more perceived defects or flaws in appearance
