what do anti d antibodies do?
naeutralise any rhd positive rhesus antigens, stops mother generating an immune response to it. ie stops mother making antibodies against rhesus antigen
at booking visit, what investigatons are done?
Hb, ABO, rhesus, syphilis, rubella, HIV, hep B and C
also do urinalysis, MSSU and c and S

what does ultrasound at the booking visit confirm?
viability, number of fetus, gestation
at follow up what is done on examination?
bp and urinalysis, symphysis - fundal height, lie and presentation, engagement of presenting part, fetal heart auscultation
downs syndrome risk assessment - what can you test in first trimester?
skin thickness behind fetal neck using ultrasound (nuchal thickness)
when is this done?
11-13 + 6 weeks
what is it combined with?
HCG and PAPP-A
2nd trimester - when is blood sample (assay of HCG and AFP done?)
15-20 weeks
for first and second trimester tests, incorporate the measurement/results with maternal age and give personal risk)
