Animal Behavior Flashcards
What are Fixed Action Patterns
Is a innate behavior continued to completion no matter how useless
are triggered by sign stimuli, when sign stimuli are exchanged between animals they are called releasers
What are the three types of learning behaviors
Habituation- learn to ignore stimuli
Associative learning- may be classical conditioning(linking 2 stimuli) or operant conditioning(trial and error)
Imprinting- occurs during a critical period in the early life and is irreversible for the length of that period
State and define the 5 types of social behaviors
Cooperation- work together
Agonistic- aggressive, used to settle disputes between individuals
Dominance hierarchies- each animal threatens the animals beneath it in a pecking order
Territoriality- is the area an organism defends from other
Altruism- reduces an individual’s sexual fitness but increases the fitness of the group
