Functions of the pelvic girdle?
-support upper body
-transference of weight
-attachment of muscles
-attachment for external genitalia
-protection of pelvic organs
-passage for childbirth
name the different parts
organe= ilium
yellow= pubis
green= ischium
blue= triradiate cartilages
why is the triradiate cartilage important?
The hip bone is comprised of 3 parts: the ileum, pubis and ischium
Prior to puberty the triradiate cartilage seperates these parts and fusion only begins at ages 15 to 17

orange= ischium

what forms the acetebulum?
the ilium, ischium and pubic join together to form the acetebulum
-the femur joins to the acetebulum forming the hip joint
