Anatomy of the abomasum, diseases of the abomasum (list), abomasal displacement: forms, incidence, etiology/causes and predisposing factors Flashcards

1
Q

Diseases of the abomasum

A

• Abomasal displacement (dislocation abomasi)
o Left sided (LDA) (sinistra)
o Right sided (RDA)→torsion (cum torsione)
• Abomasal inflammation (abomasitis)
• Abomasal ulcer (ulcus abomasi)
• Abomasal obturation (onturatio abomasi)

Reflux syndrome
(regurgitation ingestae abomasi)

Q

Abomasal displacement

A
Abomasum
- Two openings
    o Cranial = cardia
    o Caudal = pylorus
o Only part connected to the digestive tract,
everything else is not connected to the abdominal wall and other abdominal organs → movability
- Minor and major curve
- Abomasal disease depends on
    o Anatomical background
    o Content

• A condition in which the abomasum (fourth stomach), which normally lies to the right of the rumen (in the right-lower part of the abdominal cavity) is displaced below and to the left or dorsal to the right of the rumen
