Anatomy of respiratory Flashcards
main anatomical features of airways
nose, pharynx, epiglottis, larynx, trachea, bronchus, lung (last three lower respiratory tract)
gross anatomical features of lungs
two tissures (horizontal and oblique) and three lobes on right lung and one fissure (oblique) and two lobes on left
different classes of airways
trachea, primary bronchi, smaller bronchi,- conducting zone. bronchioles, alveoli - respiratory zone
two alveolar classes
type I alveoli - gas exchange, type II alveoli- release pulmonary surfactant so as to lower surface tension or differentiate to replace damaged type I cells
how does resistance to airflow vary across the respiratory tree
more resistance in trachea and bronchi because even though they have larger diameters, there are less of them compared to heaps of alveoli which mean there is more surface area for air flow in alveoli
air in conducting zone sits in
dead space
