Anaesthetics Flashcards
Nitrous oxide, entonox
Inhaled anaesthetic
dental surgery , procedures, sutures, childbirth.
MOA- prevents pain impulses from nociceptors reaching CNS.
= low bp, lightheaded
Lignocain , Bupivacaine
local anesthetic , amide
minor surgery , childbirth
MOA- prevents pain impulses from nociceptors reaching CNS.
= abnorm heart beat, low BP
cocaine
local anaesthetic (topical)
ear nose and throat procedures,
MOA- prevents pain impulses from nociceptors reaching CNS.
= nausea, nervous, restless
Isoflurane
inhaled general anaesthetic
surgery
changes tissue responsiveness to stimulation (EXCITABILITY) to reduce pain impulses from nociceptors.
= contraindicated with tachycardia
desflurane
inhaled general anaesthetic
surgery
changes tissue responsiveness to stimulation (EXCITABILITY) to reduce pain impulses from nociceptors.
= contraindicated with liver dys
Propofol
sedative, muscle relaxant
surgery
blocks sodium channels, increasing GABA receptors - slowing channel closing time.
= itching , change in HR.
Suxamethonium
Muscle relax, paralytic, cholinergic agonist.
surgery
binds to the nicotinic cholinergic receptor.- opens channel , maintain membrane potential
- constipation , malignant hypothermia
