altitude training Flashcards
Aerobic training
Long, low intensity
Anaerobic training
Short, high intesnity
Aerobic training threshold
60-80% of MHR
Anaerobic training threshold
80-90% of the MHR
Why do people train at altitude
training at altitude will effect air quality and initiate a bodily response
How does the body react to altitude and why?
Haemoglobin is not fully saturated at altitude and the body compensates by making more red blood cells to carry oxygen
Effects of altitude training:
Increase heart rate & breathing rate
Possible sickness, fatigue
Long term effects of altitude training
Increase in haemoglobin levels
increased blood thickness = decrease of blood reaching muscles
disadvantages of altitude training
Expensive setup due to travel
altitude sickness
benefits can be lost quickly
advantages of altitude training
increases blood cell count
increased concentration of haemoglobin
Better oxygen transport
