What is the required flight deck PPE?
Flight deck steel toed safety shoes, Cranial, Goggles, and Gloves.
Airfield
What is a Runway?
Paved areas aircraft takeoff and land. Vary in length depending on aircraft that will be using them
What is a Threshold Marking?
Parallel stripes 12 feet wide by 150 feet long and designate the landing area
What is Compass Rose?
Compass Calibration Pad. Paved area magnetically quiet where compass is calibrated
How are Runways Numbered?
Normally numbered in relation to n magnetic heading to nearest 10 degrees. Ex. 250 would be 25
What is an Aircraft Roatating Beacon?
Airport is below VFR weather conditions, used to identify airports location. Rotates clockwise and constant speed. Military uses 2 white lights and one green flashing 12-15 times per minute
What is the Overrun Area?
Paved or un-paved section ends provide for aborting or overshooting aircraft.
What is a MA-1 Series Overrun Barrier?
Designed to stop tricycle landing gear not equipped with tail hooks. Always in standby status
What are emergency shore based recovery equipment used for?
In-flight emergencies require stopping during landing in the shortest distance to minimize injury
What is the Taxiway
Paved area to move between parking aprons, runways, and airfield services
What is a Parking Apron?
Open paved area adjacent to hangers, fuel, services, called flight line. For parking, servicing, and loading aircraft
What are some of the safety concerns on the flightdeck?
Oil, grease, and fuel create slip hazards. Jet intakes and exhaust, and rotor and propellers arcs

Handling, Flight Deck, catapult, arresting gear officers, air boss, and plane directors
White
safety, LSO, troubleshooters, and medical
