Air Sytems Atlas Flashcards
When using ground pneumatic air for start, where does the air cart connect to the aircraft air system?
The ground pneumatic source connects to the aircraft through the left duct
With the pack control selector in STBY-N the pack produces?
A constant moderate temperature (75 degrees Fahrenheit/ 24 degrees Celsius)
With the pack control selector in STBY-C the pack produces?
A full cold temperature (65F/18C)
With the pack control selector in STBY-W the pack produces?
A warm temperature (85F/29C)
How are the Ram Air doors and the exhaust doors affected with the pack control selector in any STBY mode?
They are all fixed in the full open position
If a pack overheat position is detected, what does the pack controller automatically do?
It commands the respective pack to its coolest temperature
What occurs if a pack Fault condition is detected with the automatic pack control system?
The pack valve will freeze in the last controlled position
What does a PACK OFF light indicate?
Indicates that the respective pack is OFF. The pack valve is closed
What does the PACK INOP light indicate?
A controller fault or a pack output temperature overheat
What does having an INOP light and a PACK OFF light simultaneously indicate?
Internal Pack overheat.
The pack automatically shuts off for cooling and one (1) reset may be performed.
Where is the overheat reset for the pack located?
In the INOP/PACK OFF light switch
How many pressurisation controllers are there?
How are they operated?
3 Pressure controllers
2 are automatic utilising AC power
1 is manually operated utilising DC power
If the selected automatic pressurisation controller fails, what happens?
The pressurisation control is automatically switched to the opposite control
If automatic pressurisation switching occurs during a controller failure, how is this displayed to the crew?
EICAS Status messgae
What does AUTO INOP on the Cabin Altitude Control Panel mean?
Both Auto controllers have failed or the manual mode has been selected
What will the index mark on the cabin altitude auto rate control establish?
A climb of 500 fpm or a descent of 300 fpm cabin pressure altitude
Where are the positive pressure relief valves located in a passenger aircraft?
Left of the fuselage forward of the wing
When does the cabin Altitude Warning/Light illuminate?
10,000’ cabin altitude
When does the cabin altitude warning light extinguish?
When he cabin altitude descends below 8,500 feet
The cargo area is divided in to how many compartments?
3
Which cargo compartment or compartments utilise the bleed air system for supply of warm air?
The FWD and AFT receive warm air from the bleed air system
Where is the Bulk Cargo Heat selector located?
Accessory Panel
What happens when the Bulk Cargo Heat selector is placed in the vent position?
Turns on a fan to improved air circulation.
Draws cabin air into the bulk cargo compartment
Allows higher temperature (65F) to be achieved in the compartment
When the aircraft is on the ground how does the equipment cooling system configure its fans for cooling?
The equipment cooling systems has 2 fans. (A supply and an Exhaust)
On the ground both these fans are configured ON
When the aircraft has both engines started, the equipment cooling automatically reconfigures for flight.
What is the normal configuration of the system for flight?
The system closes the overboard exhaust valve to make a closed loop system through the skin heat exchanger and commands the supply fan to OFF
When does the valve light for the equipment cooling system illuminate while the aircraft is still on the ground?
When one (1) or more of the equipment cooling valves are not in the commanded position for flight
What does an equipment cooling OVERHEAT light in flight indicate?
The system is too hot.
The assumption is that both fans in the system are OFF
What would moving the equipment selector to STBY do if there is an equipment cooling SMOKE light illuminated?
Moving the selector to STBY would send a signal to activate the supply fan to ON.
The OVERHEAT light would then be inhibited for five (5) minutes to allow the system to cool
What does an equipment cooling SMOKE light indicate?
Indicates the presence of smoke within the equipment cooling system
When the equipment cooling SMOKE light is indicated the crew will be directed to move the selector to the OVRD position.
What happens with this selector is placed in to OVRD?
Both the supply and exhaust fans are deactivated.
Smoke Override valve is opened
System uses differential pressure to exhaust air overboard
After one (1) minute in the OVRD selection what can the crew expect to see eventually on the equipment cooling panel?
NO COOLING light is uninhibited and will eventually come on
What is the purpose of the Trim Air system?
The aircraft pack controllers regulate the pack output air temperature to the compartment requesting the coolest air.
Hot trim wire from the bleeds is then added through the trim air valves to control the temperatures in the other compartments
If the Trim Air switch is selected to OFF. What indication will the crew see?
The compartment INOP lights illuminate and associated compartment temp advisory EICAS message will present
When operating with the Trim Air selected to OFF. What cabin temperature do the packs attempt to maintain?
An average temperature of 75F/24C
What occurs after a cabin zone temperature is turned off?
Zone trim air is lost and the INOP light stays on
What is the maximum normal operating differential pressure?
8.6psi
Which isolation valve must be open to allow the flow of the APU bleed air in to the manifold?
C ISLN
When are the L and R isolation calves normally closed?
After engine start
What does it mean when the isolation valve light comes on?
The valve and switch position are not in agreement
What is indicated if a left or right DUCT LEAK light is on?
A pneumatic duct leak in the associated duct
If the DUCT LEAK light is on , when will it go out?
When the temperature along the pneumatic duct cools
Which systems become inoperative when the bleed air prevented from entering the centre pneumatic duct?
The ADP and AFT/BULK cargo heat
Which valves MUST be open to start the left engine using a ground air cart?
STARTER only
What does the BLEED light indicate (PW)?
Engine high pressure valve open, when it should be closed.
What does the BLEED light indicate (GE)?
High pressure shut off valve and/or pressure regulating valves are open when they should be closed
With the APU operating, both isolation valves open, which air condition pack can be supplied?
Left Pack and Right Pack
With the APU operating, what is the position of the APU bleed air valve?
Open
What must be done if a temperature below 45F is desired when the Forward Cargo Air Conditioning System is installed on the FREIGHTER?
The Forward Cargo Heat must be selected OFF
