AGK Systems - Secondary Flight Controls Flashcards
What are Secondary Flight Controls?
Controls that do not effect the roll, pitch or yaw
Flaps
Increase lift available and reduce stalling speed
Create worse L:D ratio
Trimming Devices
Allow the pilot to balance the forces acting on the aeroplane
Slats
Delay the stalling angle during high AoA
Spoilers
Dump lift after touchdown (Ground Mode)
Roll control during high speed flight (Flight Mode)
Why do you only need one Tim tab?
They work both up and down. So one tab can make the wings go up and down
VF
VFE
VF = Design Flap Speed
VFE = Maximum Flap Extended Speed
Four types of leading edge devices are…
Droop Nose
Krueger Flap
Leading Edge Flaps
Slats
Droop Nose
Krueger Flap
Fitted between inboard engine and fuselage
Designed to increase wing camber whilst retaining a very small leading edge radius
Auto Slats
Extend automatically when pilot commands flap extension
