AGK Systems - Fuel Systems Flashcards
Cross Feeding
Open Cross feed valve
Turn off the Pump
Once feed is complete
Turn pump back on
Close valve
Integral Tank
Interior structure of wing forms boundaries of tank
Flexible Tanks
Made from rubberised fabric material
Attached to the structure using chords and buttons
Drum Tanks
Rigid tank made from aluminium
AVTUR vs AVTAG
AVTUR: Jet A / JetA-1
AVTAG: Jet B
Jet A / JetA-1 flashpoint and auto ignition temp
38°C
Auto-igniton temp of 210°C
Voltality
Liquid to vapour
Collector Box
One way flop tubes / check valves ensure constant supply of fuel even when manoeuvring
Why is the APU pump DC powered?
So you can start from the battery
What is Venting?
When fuel vapour comes out the vapour vents at the wing tips
e.g. if fuel level is max at night but then the next day the level has decreased. Reason is becusase the fuel expands due to heat and then gets pushed out the vents - decreasing the overall level (fuel is dumped onto the floor)
Pump low pressure light reasons
Pump not working
Leak
No fuel
Why do we heat fuel?
Prevent fuel waxing
Heated by a Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC) or a Fuel Oil Heat Exchanger (FOHE)
Capacitance System
Fuel densitometer measures fuel density
System knows density/volume so it can calculate mass
Fuel Jettison System
Must discharge 1% of maximum weight per minute and must be complete within 15 minutes (MLM)
