AGK Systems - Aircraft Subsidiary Structures Flashcards
Large Aircraft Floor configuration
Supported bu aluminium alloy cross beams fixed to fuselage frames
Floor panels are then laid over the beams
Panels are either light alloy or composite material
Light Aircraft Floor
Majority of the floor is made up of the wing section extending through the cabin
Alternatively it may be formed as an integral part of the shell halves which make up the fuselage
Light a/c doors and hatches
and uses
Door: Hinged on vertical side
Hatch: Hinged on their top our bottom sides
Doors and Hatches
~Normal Access
~Emergency access/exit
~Cargo access
~Routine servicing (e.g. avionics bay)
~Cabin service equipment to the galleys
What is a plug door?
Used for normal access to most airliners (pressurised cabin)
Has tapered edges which fit snugly in a tapered door frame
When door is closed, its physically incapable of opening outwards, it must (initially) open inwards
The greater the pressure differential between cabin and atmosphere, the tighter the seal
Pins and stops ensure security and transmit door loads to the rest of the fuselage
Plug Door pros/cons)
Physically impossible to open plug door when aircraft is pressurised
~This improves door/structure security
Potential Error
~Unless pressure hull is depressurised once a/c is on the ground, the internal cabin pressure can make it impossible to open the plug type door
Inspection and Monitoring
Cabin doors have inspection windows to visually confirm that all locks are engaged
Green - locked
Red - unlocked
Visual door indictors in cockpit on large a/c
Flight deck windows
Must have de-ice/anti ice facility
Windscreen panel is compromised of two preformed and tempered transparent glass plies
Heated
An interlayer absorbs impact loads and prevent the glass from fragmenting if it fails
Designed to withstand 4lbs bird impact
Flight deck side panel windows
Side panels are removeable
Mostly used for Emergency use
Eye Reference Position
Passenger Cabin Material
Acrylic to reduce weight
3 layers: outer, middle and inner
Inner pane is not structural
Outer and middle panels are capable of taking full pressurisation loads
~ can handle x6 of load at 8spi
