AGK Systems - Icing and Rain Protection Flashcards
What is a Vibrating rod ice detector also known as?
ROSEMOUNT
How does an ice detector work?
Constantly vibrates at 40KHz
As ice builds up, vibration reduces
Heater auto switches on to remove ice (Warning light turned on)
Pressure Operated Head
Aneroid Capsule connected to a tube is protrudes into airflow
Sensitive to air pressure due to holes in leading edge
Tube pressure causes capsule to expand
If holes are blocked, tube pressure drops
Aneroid capsule contracts, holds warning light on
Thenis heated
What are the two seperate systems for Engine Anti-ice
One for engine itself
One for intake area of the engine nacelle
Icing range for Jet/Turboprop
Generally +10°C => 20°C Visible Moisture
Turboprop Ice Protection
Generally use electrically heated mats
Windscreen Ice Protection
Electrically heated
~prevents ice build-up
~improves impact resistance
Considered essential equipment
Glass kept at 35°C
Windscreen Wipers
FAST: 120 cycles per minute
SLOW: 80 cycles per minute
The wipers are speed limited
