AGK Systems - Landing Gear Flashcards
Landing Gear Types
Fixed
Retractable
Tri-Cycle
Conventional (Tail Drawing or Tail Wheel)
What is the ‘Oleo Strut”
Landing gear legs (Oleo Strut) are hydro-pneumatic shock absorbers that reduce and absorb the stresses encountered during landing
Oleo Strut characteristics
Incorporates a hydraulic damper valve and a separator piston
Damper controls the flow of oil which regulates compression and extension
Upper most section is Nitrogen filled, compressed Nitrogen its as a spring
When a/c is on the ground, Nitrogen and oil pressure are equal
Nitrogen bears the weight ion the a/c when its on the ground
What oil is used in Oleo struts?
Mineral Hydraulic Oil - DTD 585 (Red)
Oleo Leg
Absorbs loads and dampen rebound
Wheel Axles
Allow heels to rotate freely
Bogie
Wheel axles connected to a central beam
Drag Strut
Brace the assembly against shock loads
Side Stay
Braces the assembly against side loads during taxiing and landing
Gear Doors
Aerodynamic closures to landing gear brays
Torque links
Prevent rotation of the inner Oleo cylinder
Allows the Oleo to be telescopic whilst preventing the two sections rotating independently - also known as Scissor links
Nose Wheel
Automatic self centering
Shimmy Protection
Nose Wheel Assembly
