advanced adult life support Flashcards
shockable rhythms
VF
pulseless VT
non-shockable rhythms
asystole
pulseless electrical activity
ratio chest compressions to ventilation
30:2
defibrillation - VF/pulseless VT
singel shock
followed by 2 min CPR
defibrillation - VF/pulseless VT - cardiac arrest is witnessed
up to 3 quick successive shocks (rather than one) followed by CPR
drug delivery
1st line = IV access
adrenaline - non-shockable rhythm
adrenaline 1mg ASAP
adrenaline - VF/VT
adrenaline 1mg once chest compressions have restarted after 3rd shock
adrenaline - repeating it
repeat adrenaline 1mg every 3-5min whilst ALS continues
when should amiodarone 300mg be given
patient in VF/VT after 3 shocks have been given
giving amiodarone to those in VT/VF
300mg after 3 shocks
150mg after 5 shocks
CPR and thrombolytic drugs
if thrombolytic drug given, CPR should be continued for 60-90mins
reversible causes of cardiac arrest - the Hs
hypoxia hypovolaemia hyperkalaemia, hypokalaemia hypoglycaemia hypothermia
reversible causes of cardiac arrest - the Ts
thrombosis
tension pneumothorax
tamponade
toxins
