A

Inflammation of eustachian tube - stasis of mucous drainage from ear - good for bacteria growth

A

Young age
Recent upper respiratory infection
Craniofacial abnormality
Family history

A

How is otitis media managed?

A

Oral analgesia

Often resolves in 4 days without antibiotcs

Can give oral antibiotics

What advice is given to patients with acute otitis media?

A

Most resolve without antibiotics but return in 2/3 days if not better

Avoid air travel - can worsen pain
