Actions/Origins/Insertions/Innervations (Post Midterm) Flashcards
What is the action of the gastrocnemius?
It plantar flexes the ankle when the knee is extended and flexes the knee joint
What is the proximal attachment of the medial and lateral head of the gastrocnemius?
Medial head: The popliteal surface of the femur, superior to the medial condyle.
Lateral head: The lateral aspect of the lateral condyle of the femur.
What is the distal attachment of the gastrocnemius?
The posterior surface of the calcaneus via the calcaneal tendon
What is the innervation of the gastrocnemius?
The tibial nerve (S1-S2)
What is the action of the soleus?
It plantar flexes the ankle
What is the proximal attachment of the soleus?
The posterior surface of the head of the fibula, the superior quarter of the posterior surface of the fibula, the soleal line, and the medial border of the tibia
What is the distal attachment of the soleus?
The posterior surface of the calcaneus via the calcaneal tendon
What is the innervation of the soleus?
The tibial nerve (S1-S2)
What is the action of the plantaris?
It weakly assists the gastrocnemius in plantar flexing the ankle
What is the proximal attachment of the plantaris?
The inferior end of the lateral supracondylar line of the femur and oblique popliteal ligament
What is the distal attachment of the plantaris?
The posterior surface of the calcaneus via the calcaneal tendon
What is the innervation of the plantaris?
The tibial nerve (S1-S2)
What is the action of the flexor digitorum longus?
It flexes the lateral four digits and plantarflexes the ankle
What is the proximal attachment of the flexor digitorum longus?
The medial part of the posterior surface of the tibia inferior to the soleal line and by a broad tendon of the fibula
What is the distal attachment of flexor digitorum longus?
The bases of the distal phalanges of the lateral four digits
What is the innervation of the flexor digitorum longus?
The tibial nerve (S2-S3)
What is the action of the flexor hallucis longus?
It flexes the great toe at all joints and weakly plantar flexes the ankle
What is the proximal attachment of the flexor hallucis longus?
The inferior 2/3 of the posterior surface of the fibula and inferior part of the interosseous membrane
What is the distal attachment of the flexor hallucis longus?
The base of the distal phalanx of the great toe (hallux)
What is the innervation of the flexor hallucis longus?
The tibial nerve (S2-S3)
What is the action of the tibialis posterior?
It plantarflexes the ankle and inverts the foot
What is the proximal attachment of the tibialis posterior?
The posterior surface of the tibia inferior to the soleal line, posterior surface of the fibula, and interosseous membrane
What is the distal attachment of the tibialis posterior?
Primarily to the tuberosity of the navicular, to the cuneiforms, cuboid, and bases of the 2nd-4th metatarsals.
What is the innervation of the tibialis posterior?
The tibial nerve (L4-L5)
