COX inhibitor => elevated pain threshold, antipyretic by action on hypothalamic heat regulatory center

Onset: 15-30 min
Peak: 30-120 min
Duration: 3-4 hrs

- fever
- mild- moderate pain

Contraindications
- hypersensitivity
- pt with liver desease

- abdominal pain

Dose
(Adult): 325-650 mg PO q 4-6 hrs prn, max dose 4 g a day
(Pedi): 15mg/kg PO q 4-6 hrs prn, max dose 4 g a day

Precautions
- Metabolized by liver- overdose can be toxic
- doesn’t have anti-platelet aggregation effect
- doesn’t have peripheral anti-inflammatory effect
