What is medical abortion?

A

early in pregnancy(less than 49 days) both medical and surgical procedures can be offered. Mifepristone, a progesterone receptor blocker, can be given followed by misoprostol, a prostaglandin E1, to induce uterine contractions to expel products of conception. It is 96% effective but is associated with higher blood loss than surgical abortion
