AAMC CPF Flashcards
intensity of a uniform electric field E
voltage V and distance d over which it is applied as E = V/d
what does carboxylation mean
addition of a carboxylic acid group to a structure
what is power; how do you obtain joules from it?
power is work over time, thus power units of Watt [W] = [J/s]. Thus, multiplying watts by a unit of time (ie seconds) would yield the energy in joules.
what differs whether a reaction is ruled by kinetic or thermodynamic preferences?
The kinetic product generally has to rearrange to become thermodynamically stable, whereas the thermodynamic product does not rearrange because it is already in the most stable form.
delta G equations at equilibrium
delta G is 0 at equilibrium
delta G = delta Go + RT ln (Keq)
thus, delta Go = - RT ln (Keq)
how does deprotonation affect nucleophilicity
eg. of a water
Deprotonation of the reacting water will make it more nucleophilic and reactive towards the electrophilic carbonyl atom
wavelength of visible light?
The wavelength of visible light is between about 400 to 750 nm.
