Q

Talk about the role of conflict

A

If we cannot dismiss the views of the minority conflict will remain so well start to examine their arguments more closely

It doesn’t mean we change our opinions just that we think about their views more closely

E.g being given a leaflet on info about consequences of animal testing in cosmetic products may mean we pay attention more closely despite not changing our actions

However ultimately we may change our consumer behaviour, this behaviour spreads across other people and social change ensues.

More and more people start to change their opinion which loosens the pressure to conform to the majority position

Q

Talk about consistency

Who proved consistency is important

A

When minority groups express their arguments more consistently they are more influential in bringing about social change

This is because when they are more consistent they are taken more seriously because they dhow that they really believe I’m they are true

Q

Talk about the augmentation principle

A

If their are risks to such views will increase how seriously they are regraded by others because they are showing that they really fo care about their cause and would be ready to sacrifice many things including their freedoms

So they care more likely to be influential in bring in social change
