What is normative social influence
The idea that humans comply in order to be liked to be accepted and fear rejection
A majority group may make it difficult for other group members to deviate from the majority point of view so placing pressure on them to conform
What is informational social influence
Idea that humans have the desire to be right and so conform when they feel that other people’s views and decisions are correct and accurate. They change their own view too
When does informational social influence most likely occur
When the situation is ambiguous
Right course of action isn’t clear
The situation is a crisis
Rapid action required
We believe others to be experts
