Tested male us student on 12 critical trials

Pps always answered in the same order
Confederates were used to give wrong answers in 12 out of 28 of the trials
What di he find
Found that in the 12 critical trials 37% of responses made by true Pps were incorrect.
Quarter of the Pps never conformed
To make sure that the incorrect answers were cz of confederate she conducted the same study except without confederates and found 1% errors made
Why did people conform?
The Pps claimed that they confirmed cz of either 3 reasons
Distortion of perception
Small number of Pps came ti see the lines the same way as the majority
Distortion of judgement
They felt doubt about the accuracy of their judgement so went for the majority answer
Distortion of action
Believe their answers were right but gave wrong answer to prevent disapproval.
