8.5 The Standard Model - Leptons Flashcards
What are leptons?
A group of fundamental particles.
What are the 3 base leptons?
electrons
muons
taus
What are all the leptons?
electron positron electron neutrino(and anti)
muon anit-muon muon neutrino(and anti)
tau anti-tau tau neutrino(and anti)
What is a neutrino?
a neutral subatomic particle with a mass close to zero and zero electric charge
Which lepton has the greatest mass?
tau
Which lepton has the lowest mass?
electron
What is the only stable lepton?
electron
What do the other 2 leptons do?
Decay into ordinary electrons (eventually)
When counting lepton number in particle interactions what do we have to remember?
That the lepton number has to be counted separately for each lepton.
What is the lepton number?
The number of leptons in a particle interaction.
What are quarks ?
The subatomic building blocks of hadrons
What is the charge on each lepton? - not neutrino or antiparticles
-1e
What is a charge on each anti-lepton? - not neutrino
1e
What is the charge on all neutrinos?
0
