4.2 Electric Field Strength Flashcards
What is electric field strength?
Force per unit charge. It is the force a charged object will experience per 1C of charge when within an electric field.
Equation for electric field strength (with force and charge)?
E = F/Q
What are the units of electric field strength ?
NC^-1
Is electric field strength a scalar or a vector? Why?
vector
The direction of Electric Field Strength is the same as direction that a positive charge due to force acting on it will take when in an electric field.
What happens to this field strength when in a uniform electric field?
It stays the same throughout.
What happens to electric field strength when in a radial electric field?
It depends upon position, r , in the radial electric field.
What is the charge of a proton?
1.6 x 10^-19C
What is the mass of the proton?
1.7 x 10^-27kg
What is the mass of an electron?
9.11 x 10^-31
What is the charge of an electron?
-1.6 x 10^-19
