Believes that achieving and maintaining a healthy weight is personally important
4 types of extrinsic behavior regulations
external regulation, introjected regulation, identified regulation, integrated regulation
occurs when a client is engaging in a behavior to satisfy external demands such as reward attainment or punishment avoidance
external regulation
involves behaviors that have been partially internalized
performed to avoid guilt, attain ego enhancements, or to enhance self-esteem
introjected regulation
occurs when the behavior is valued and is personally important but not entirely congruent with the client’s sense of self
identified regulation
occurs when behaviors are congruent with values, goals, needs
integrated regulation
the feeling of freedom from external influences or control – the individual is perceived to be the source of their own behavior
Autonomy
- occurs when a person’s behavior is attributed to the “way they are” rather than to external factors
