8.1 5 Gene Linkage Flashcards
Linked genes
They are sited on the same chromosome and inherited as if they are one unit
Completely unlinked genes
Approximately equal number of gametes containing parental and recombinant alleles
When genes are closely linked
Recombination events during meiosis rarely occur in the gametes
Large amounts
Or parental phenotypes
Crossover value
Number of recombinant offspring /total number of offspring * 100
Further part genes
Have higher crossover values
From this can build a chromosome map bioinformatics
Homogametic
Individual produces gametes that contain only one type of sex chromosome
Heterogametic
Gametes that contain two different types of sex chromosome
In females
One of the X chromosomes is inactivated at random to form a Barr body
X chromosome
Much bigger than Y chromosome
Gene carried on X chromosome
Sex-linked - no corresponding allele on y
