8/29d Observing Function Flashcards
Describe basic movements observed using a common movement system model
C - control: smoothness, coordination, stability, sequencing, timing initiation
A - amount of movement: amplitude, excursion, ROM of movement required to complete the activity
S - speed of movement: time to complete the task
S - symmetry of movement: there may be natural asymmetries in a task
S - symptom provocation: Guarded, SOB, Pain, Incontinence
What has to happen (absolute requirement) for sitting in a chair**
Hip Flexion
When do you provide assistance to a patient who is unstable in a sitting position?
It depends on the goal of the patient and his/her point in recovery
How would you be able to tell if a task was difficult for a patient?
heavy breathing, center of mass moving outside the base of support, lack of control
What are the absolute muscle requirements for making a sit to stand happen?
Hip extension and knee extension for sit to stand
Hip flexion and knee flexion for stand to sit
What do you think about the person’s capacity to get to standing multiple times and in other conditions?
It is dependent on the amount of force the person has available and their motor control
What personal factors could alter a sit to stand task?
weakness and previous injury
What are environmental factors that could impact a sit to stand?
Stability and firmness of the surface, health impairments and vision, change in distance from sit to stand
