Depression
An uprising in 1786 when more than 1000 farmers attacked court houses and prevented the state from seizing Farms
Shays rebellion
Gathering of state representatives on May 25, 1785, to revise the articles of Confederation.
Constitutional convention
Called for a strong national government with three branches
Virginia plan
Would pass the laws

Called three branches of government however provided the legislature that only had one house
New Jersey plan
Settlement in which each side gives up some of its demands in order to reach an agreement
Compromise
Each side in an Admiral show of civic virtue gave up some demands to achieve unity
Great compromise
If a state had 5,000 slaves residence 3,000 of them would be included in the states population
Three fifths compromise
Government in which citizens run them selves through elected representative
Republic
Roman citizens who were willing to serve the public office not for the money but because they were devoted to the republic
Founding fathers
Government in which one person or group holds complete authority
Dictatorship
Signed in 1215 a British document that contained two basic ideas: monarchs themselves have to obey the laws, and citizens have basic rights.
Magna Carta
A document that stated that parliament elections should be held regularly
English bill of rights
The right not to be held in prison without first being charged with Specific crime
