7.3 Clinical- Nerves and Urogenital organs Flashcards
What does the ANS innervate?
All organs and tissues except skeletal muscle
Name some things the ANS regulates?
Muscle contraction and relaxation, electrolyte balance and metabolism
What plexus is part of the Pelvic autonomic nervous system?
Inferior Hypogastric Plexus (IHP)
What is the Inferior Hypogastric Plexus?
It is the nerve supply to the pelvic organs
Is the IHP sympathetic or parasympathetic?
It has both sympathetic ganglion and parasympathetic ganglion
What is different with the IHP parasympathetic ganglion?
They have long axons and travel long distances making them vulnerable to injury
Are there more of these neurons in females or males?
There are more in males as the internal reproductive organs have a higher density of innervation
Is there a potential problem for surgical injury?
Yes, due to long axons there can be damage to motor pathways
