4.2/4.3 Abdominal viscera Flashcards
Describe the location of the esophagus and its hiatus
Starts at C6, behind trachea, esophageal hiatus through the diaphragm at T10
What are the 3 narrowings within the esophagus ?
Cervical, Thoracic and Abdominal
Describe the Cervical narrowing in the esophagus
Upper esophageal sphincter, supplied by inferior thyroid artery and venous drainage to brachiocephalic system
Describe the Thoracic narrowing in the esophagus
In aortic arch and LMB, supply from aortic esophageal branches, azygous venous drainage, mediastinal nodes
Describe the Abdominal narrowing in the esophagus
Diaphragmatic orifice narrowing, left gastric branch from aorta, left gastric portal for venous drainage and pre aortic nodes
Describe the anatomy of the stomach
Cardiac orifice, Fundus, Body, Lesser curvature, Greater curvature, Pyloric, Pyloric orifice, Rugae
What are the arteries of the stomach?
R/L gastric arteries along the lesser curvature and R/L gastroepiloic arteries along greater curvature
Is the stomach retroperitoneal or intraperitoneal?
Intraperitoneal
Is the Duodenum retroperitoneal or intraperitoneal?
Retroperitoneal except for the first part which is Intraperitoneal
Describe the 4 parts of the Duodenum
- Duodenal cap- upwards and backwards onto right psoas
- Vertical decent on right psaos
- Infront IVC/ ab. aorta on r. psoas/l. psoas crosses at L3
- DJ flexure
What is the Major Duodenal Papilla and where is it?
It brings bile produced by liver and stored in the gallbladder to the stomach in part 2
What is the Minor Duodenal Papilla and where is it?
Where the Accessory duct drains into above the Major Duodenal Papilla
What is the arterial supply of the small intestine?
Superior mesenteric artery and vein
What are arcades?
Loops of arterial supply
What are vasa recta?
Straight lines of arterial supply
